Sophocles married Louiza Sefeklis Zoullas (born 5 Feb ).

He is currently the founder, chairman and CEO of Zenith Shipping, an owner of crude tankers, product tankers and drybulk vessels. Zoullas is also a principal of Delphin Shipping, an investment vehicle in drybulk shipping. In 2005, he founded and was Chairman and CEO of Eagle Bulk Shipping, a Nasdaq listed 45-vessel shipping company.

In the span of his career, he has been a principal in over 100 shipping transactions, ordered and constructed over 40 newbuilds vessels.

In the capital markets, he has raised over $600 million in primary and secondary issues, PIPES, bought deals, ATMs and an IPO. He has also raised over $500 million of equity in the non-public institutional markets and over $2 billion in the b
